Yesterday vs. today

Yesterday, I decided I didn't even want to think about "baby food" until Shona is like, a year old.

Today found me making my own baby food. So far we have apples--enough to last until she's 30--and avocado. I'm going to attempt pumpkin next.

Now, I only said I'm MAKING baby food; I didn't say Shona's going to start eating it everyday. But she's certainly showing all the signs of being ready, and last night she ate pears (organic, of course) like a pro and slept amazingly. So much for my plans to EBF for the first 12 months. What am I going to do next??!!

oooh, I'm glad to hear she slept well after eating some pears - at least you know they didn't make her feel miserable! :) You might find she just likes food like her cousin Clement! ;-) Babies are all so different. Benjamin just *wasn't* bothered about food and never ate enough to be considered a "meal" till he was a year old. But Clement was begging at 4 months and would eat anything in sight if you let him! So you might actually find she enjoys it a lot and is happier. But just think how well you have done with exclusive bfing so far!

Meant to say that despite all Clement is eating, it hasn't in any way decreased his mummy-milk feeds, he still has *loads* of them! :-D But that's perfectly fine with me - I'm glad that the solids don't replace his need for them! So you don't have to look at introducing solids as a weaning from milk event!

hopefully she likes apples and avacado that's the two things Cameron doesn't like! Well, he likes apples, not applesauce. Who knows maybe you will be able to just feed her before bed every night for a while and you'll still be almost exclusively bfing while getting a better night's sleep at the same time! That's what I did with Cameron for a few months.

I personally feel that there's nothing more natural/healthy than giving a baby fresh fruits/veggies when they act like they're ready for it. Now if you were giving her pureed french fries or hot dogs or something, that would be different. Her diet will still be mostly mama's milk for a long time. :) But that doesn't mean that other foods don't have their place.
