me again :-)

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all the comments!!

Rach: I made the broccoli soup again last night, minus any extra salt, and it turned out fine--maybe even a little bland! It's still not quite like yours, though. :( Also, the chicken broth has MSG, which I'm not very happy about...are there any alternatives?

Ev: Hi there! Yeah, things in the UK can be pricey compared with things in America, but you can still find great deals on eBay UK (postage is WAY cheaper than over here!) and in charity shops. Rachel finds a lot of good stuff. Are you familiar with Freecycle?

Sharon: Yeah, I know what you mean about getting baby stuff second-hand!! I don't know why anyone would buy all new stuff when you can do just as well at garage sales and resale shops. I don't have much baby stuff yet, but what I *do* have is all from garage sales, hand-me-downs, or resale shops. I got an Eddie Bauer jogging stroller from a garage sale. It looks brand new (the lady hardly ever used it), and I paid $40!

Yes, Caleb is the one who took that photo of me. I really want to get a photo of us together! Oh, and yes, that is a new dresser. Caleb just bought me (or *us* :-)) a bedroom set and it has made life so much easier because now I actually have a place for everything!! Here's what our room looks like now (a big improvement! It looked horrible before!!):

Okay, so now I need to get my act together and go to the store. We're having Thanksgiving with Dad and Mom Hembd, and I'm in charge of making cornbread stuffing (plus whatever else I want to make. That will include some creamcheese truffles that I've been desperate to try my hand at!).

Hmm, what else before I go? Oh yeah, I've been doing a lot of "looking around" at cloth diapering websites. I want to use cloth diapers but I don't like the bulkiness of them--i.e., they make the baby look huge! So I guess I'm going to keep looking until I find something I like. I did find this sprayer thing that you attach to your toilet to make cleaning easier. Rachel told me about it and I'm SO glad she did. Here's a link if anyone's interested: http://www.babysproutnaturals.com/bumGenius_Cloth_Diaper_Sprayer_Toilet_Attachment_p/bgspryr.htm

Maybe later (after I get some cooking and baking done!) I will post more ultrasound photos. For now, here are two of Caleb: :-)

That's it for now. Ciao!

Wow, the bedroom set is lovely! Looks very posh too. :) I'm sure you're very pleased with it. And the bedding set really goes along well with it too - did you just get it as well?

Regarding cloth nappies (diapers) being "bulky", I must admit that I actually like the "big" look! :) The odd time that they've been in a disposable, I think they look soooo skinny and undernourished! LOL And I can't wait till they're back to having a healthy sized bottom again! But if you don't like that look, then I'm sure you can find something you like that is slim fitting. You should have a look at Kissaluvs: http://www.kissaluvs.com/
I think they're made in Houston. I've only actually ever had 1 of their diapers (a size 2) of the "fitted diapers", which wasn't really my taste, but it is *very* slim fitting. I don't think it's any more bulky than a disposable, even with the diaper wrap/cover over it. I still think you *really* need to go visit Young & Restless in Houston. It's fab and I'd probably go there *all* the time if I lived over there! :)

Then you can see & touch all sorts of cloth diapers! Might be nice to get a half dozen different diapers (like one of each) and then you can try them out when the baby is born & buy more afterwards once you see which you like. Obviously there are different kinds: shaped/fitted (which need a cover/wrap over), but are the cheaper option (apart from flat ones that you pin), or you can get All-in-one diapers (not really very reliable in my opinion, as well as expensive), or pocket diapers, such as Fuzzibunz. Fuzzibunz aren't cheap, but they're the most popular/reliable of pocket diapers. They have poppers to fasten, so really are as easy to put on as a disposable. You just stuff the pocket with whatever kind of cloth you like (terry/toweling/microfibre etc) to soak up the liquid. Anyway, I could go on & on - sorry! :)

Oh yeah, and regarding baby things being expensive here, it really doesn't always have to be that way. There are lots of ways of buying things without having to pay new prices. My favourite way is through classified boards on various parenting websites/message boards. You'd be surprised the bargains you can get, as well as sooo many people who actually give things away just for the cost of postage (or sometimes just plain free!). I've managed to get *hundreds* of cloth nappies over the past couple of years, all different kinds, for very little money really. I buy secondhand ones, I sell them on again if they're not suitable or if I find I like something else better, as well as swap them with other mums, which is lots of fun since no money has to change hands. It can become quite a hobby really! [blush] LOL But at least I still only have 7 pushchairs (strollers)...it's just nappies that come & go at the moment, but they don't take up as much space as the strollers! :)

Oh yeah, heard of a book called "Having a Baby on eBay", which is about buying secondhand and saving lots of money. Sounds neat book, tho not read/seen it myself.

OK, I'll leave you in peace now.
Lots of love!! xx

Your bedroom set looks great--but where will the baby go? :)

Absolutely love the bedroom set!! Wood...ahh soo nice! Yes I use ebay loads for almost all my baby needs! But a few things I prefer to buy in store (like bottle nipples lol) and well, sometimes it is nice to browse to find certain item of clothing for the kids because I find you just can't totally see what your buying and the colouring the pics aren't perfect always. But I've gotten great deals there. And I totally understand the feeling about clothies being bulky!! I never liked that myself, and I felt sorry for the child who everyone said "what a big bottom" at least that is what I got when I started with Amy! And it never sat well with me. And motherease aren't huge either...but I'm sure Rachel knows more about slimmer fitting diapers as she has told you above. My only suggestion is don't go with pins even though they are cheaper...if you have a wriggler of a baby you'll be poking the poor thing a few million times! I can't imagine what it would be like for Aaron and he is soooo hard to keep still! I would definitely try out ones to find the one you like.

Oh, and there are a few things that I can't stand buying over here they just don't work. The so called non spill cups...they just absolutely do not work I've tried several. And I prefer Gerber's cups definitely non spill!! Nope no gerber here, lol but you know what I'll be buying when we get over abw! :)

Oh and yes we've used freecycle a few times in Ed. but haven't since then as I haven't needed "big" items much lately...well, come to think of it I need a childs gate hmm! :)

I guess I never felt that the bulkiness of cloth diapers was a big deal. When I see a baby in cloth I think how nice to see a baby in soft cozy natural fibers instead of paper and plastic and chemicals...and the bulkiness of the cloth doesn't really cross my mind until other people point it out. I know some people think the bulkiness must be uncomfortable for the baby, or that it might interfere with learning to crawl/walk, but when I switched Noah from disposables to cloth, he was already walking and crawling, and the cloth didn't seem to slow him down in the least. And Elijah, who is very verbal and still wearing night-time diapers, has made it quite clear that the cloth diapers are much more comfortable than the disposable.

Though it sounds like you are questioning not whether you will use cloth, but what kind you will use. :) My experience has been that the ease of washing quickly becomes more important than how the diaper looks, which is why I'm happy with prefolds. If you don't mind doing some folding, you might like flats, which are super easy to wash and can be folded to be quite trim on the baby's bottom (or so I hear, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet).

I think I'm like Rachel in that once you get me started on cloth diapers, I won't stop talking, and I don't even have nearly as much experience as she does, so I'll be quiet now. :)
